About USEFI Fresh thinking about international education In the rapidly evolving field of international education, United States Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) offers a fresh perspective in educational advising, fellowship support and facilitating academic dialogue between U.S. and India.
USEFI is committed to promoting dialogue on issues of contemporary interest among Fulbrighters and local communities. USEFI features visiting and returning Fulbrighters at seminars and roundtables, provides forums for interfacing with the civil society through collaborative lectures and facilitates greater communication through e-enabled mediums.
USEFI was established under a bilateral agreement on educational exchange signed between India and the U.S. on February 2, 1950. USEFI is administered by a bi-national Board of Directors consisting of ten Members, five Americans - nominated by the U.S. Ambassador and five Indians - nominated by the Government of India. The U.S. Ambassador is the Honorary Chairman of the USEFI Board.
USEFI has identified priorities for future development with meticulous and strategic planning. USEFI continues to explore viable ways in which the Foundation may respond to requests for services from both Indian and U.S. universities interested in linkages. It continues to reach out to underserved regions and communities.
USEFI undertakes following major activities:
Educational Advising Services
USEFI advises students at its offices in Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai. While basic information is provided free of charge, most educational advising services are supported by membership fees and sponsoring organizations. In addition, USEFI makes available selected library resources on U.S. higher education through satellite centers in Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
USEFI coordinates selected academic conferences and sponsors lectures and workshops involving Fulbright grantees in India. The grants received from the U.S. Embassy helps USEFI to stage South Asian regional roundtables on contemporary topics.
USEFI publishes a quarterly newsletter and annual report, provides the press and Fulbright publications information about its grantees' activities and disseminates information on this website. The online Fulbright Quarterly Newsletter from Washington reports news and events from Commissions and Alumni worldwide.
